Hi, Greetings and Salutations to all at Summerhill College. It's wonderful to see such a generous past pupil as Mr Gilmartin donating space to his Alma Mater. He must be a really sound guy and he must really appreciate the education which he received in Summerhill to go to the trouble of constructing such a magnificent site! I only wish that I had as much money as him and I would send some back to the school. leaving=1984

Hi, I'm particularly interested in getting the content of the "Mrs Walshe nee Delaney retires" link. I met Joan last week in Galway and told her of the page on your Summerhill Web site. She would love to see it or I could send it to her - however on checking today I see that it appears to be blank. I'd appreciate if you could restore and/or send to me. I'm at guinaneg@nortel.ie. Thanks for the website, Gerry Guinane.

I attended Summerhill from '63 through 1968. I was part of the wrestling team for Summerhill under the guidance of Father Michael (Ricky) Devine. I was also very good friends with Mal Keane and Adrian Kinloss. Fr. (Yob) Fitzgerald used to refer to us as the terrible trio.I would like to know about some or all of the following Fr.s Bobby and Christy Jones, McKeon, Early, Haran, Tom Lavin, Jim Kelly, John Green, and Finnegan and any others I may have forgotten since. Mr.s Gannon and Kilkoyne plus one other that I have forgotten. What is/has been happening? I would like to know if there are any year books available from any of the years I attended? Some students I remember were James Stoker, Herbie McCaffrey, Jimmy Cox, Lippsett, Kane(big tall guy) Hanley, Jim (Rubber) Kelly, Brendan Mcloughlin and his friend Dalton (both left in 64), Anthony (Croc) Cronneley, And any connections to Malachy (Mal) Keane. Seamus Mcguire the violinist (he was very ill)Thank you and I look forward to further communication as I really did have a good time in the "good old CIC"Thank you in advance Al Mison

Always wondered if our class is ever going to have a reunion. Maybe at the 15 year mark fellas!Just as a matter of interest who runs the 100m fatest at the college these days and what's his time? Anyway campers I've gotta go shams. Hope to hear from someone/anyone soon. Cheers, Neil Sweeney (IG)

What ever happened to Ned the caretaker. He was in the college for years.I remember him giving my brother a kick in the arse for throwing snowballs one Christmas. He was a good man to put up with all the abuse and distasteful comments which were targeted at him on a daily basis. God bless you Ned. What has happened toBig Brendan Duggan, I hope he is doing well. Contrary to popular public beliefhe was a damn good teacher who should have been shown more respect. I also remember Fr. Green beat three students with a stick, in the corridor, out side the main office. I was a first year, still very impressional, yet subjected to such barbaric scenes. I saw a teacher kick a student and I must add, from first hand experience, being hit on the head with the sharp side of a ruler isless the pleasurable. My best friend was expelled for his wrong doings and castfrom the cradle of Summer Hill without the one thing that we go there to seek: education. The powers to be threw him out on to the streets with no leaving cert,no future, no pride. Just another body on the scrap heap of "problem students" My friend was far from an Angel and his actions and attitude left alot to be desired. He was a pain in the arse, a teachers nightmare, but most of all he was a student who required more attention and support than the other 'less disturbed' students inorder to succeed. The bin man should not complain about the odour from the garbage, that is his chosen job. Therefore, a teacher should not complain about the attitude of his/her students, rather they should help improve the learning atmosphere and regard the studentsas pprospects for the future. I may sound bitter, but that is untrue. I actually enjoyed thelazy, hazy days of secondary school and the advantages of not having to be self sufficient. I do not think that teachers should have to be subjected to endless abuse and constant threat but I do believe that teachers should be more focused on the power that they possess over the livesof our youth. The future of this country depends on teenagers and youthful, playful kids who will one day run this country. Irish children are shown enough violence every day on television due to the conflict NI, lets not show them the same actions in our schools. The formative years are very important,we must realize that teenager are going through vital changes in body and mind which must be respected and nurtured.I admire anybody who can stand at the head of a class and control the attention of 30 teenagers, just be aware teachers, that these kids depend on you for guidance and sympathy througout stormy times.

501 - 1990.To anyone who knows/remembers me (pardon the vanity of thinking someone might) a big hello. I remember Fr. Moore telling us in english class one day that on the law of averages at least one member of our class would be dead in 5 years.Either that was to shut us up by getting us to think about our own mortality orhe was been serious. Either way, I think we have passed that milestone. (I'll probably be hit by a bus later though.) I have always meant to do it in personand some day I might get around to it but I would like to thank all thoseteachers who put in the time and put up with the extra hassle. Among the facesthat come to mind I would just like to say that i really appreciate everything(not necessarily the subject concerned)I learned from the teachers I had for T.D.,physics, chemistry, maths, german and english. Ye should know who ye are! Oh andcheers Peadar. Im currently working for Oracle (databases) in Dublin, though Im hoping to change the location soon. Before I go, for all those people who have nothing but bad memories of Summerhill, and feel the need to tell everyoneabout it, you have to be able to take the good with the bad and if you didn't take that with you from 'Da Hill' then i feel sorry for you. Sure things couldhave been tough at times but you don't appeared to have learned from it. In fact all you appear to have learned is to bitch and moan. Save it for your therapist! Get over it.Nice site.

Hello fellow Summerhill lovers! My name is Leonard Taylor but my friends call me Lennie. I went to Summerhill for 5 glorious years and I did the Leaving in 1988. Not a day goes by without me wishing I was back with all my chums. What a jolly good time we had all those years ago. And the teachers in the college were just spiffing. Is Maggie O Dowd still working there? If so tell her I said that she was really swell and I just loved her Business Org. class. So anyway, a little bit about me. Well I am studying to be a priest and golly gosh but I am to be deaconised this Easter. It really is quite exciting! Summerhill has always had the reputation for mould fine young men into priests and I am one of them. Kepp em coming Father Early!. So I will remember you all in my evenings in the seminary. I hope you all have a ripping time in Summerhill and that you leave with the delightful memories I have. Must dash because I am jolly busy.Lennie Taylor. Class of 1988

Hello Class of '74. Although I did not finish at Summerhill I spent two yearsthere (69/70 & 70/&71). I claim the distinction of being one of the first two Americans to attend Summerhill. My brother, Leo, was the other. We were fromDetroit. We entered Summerhill the same year that Americans landed and set footon the moon interesting parallel, wouldn't you say? Anyway, I have good memoriesof Summerhill. I remember students and faculty who made us feel welcomed. I'mnow living in Muskegon, Michigan which is on the western shoreline of the state.I'm a psychologist for a rural shcool district. Leo is an attorney in the Detroitarea. (I've noticed from reading this guestbook that there are 4 other postingwith Michigan addresses. There must be some sort of Sligo-Michigan connectiongoing on here.) I'd enjoy hearing from anyone who remembers Leo or I. Takecare.back in
