| Summerhill College Reporters: Patrick Cunningham Geoffrey Hynes Summerhill sees the end of an era A fond farewell was said to Mrs Joan Walsh, who retired from the teaching staff in Summerhill College this year. Mrs Walsh, nee Delaney, a native of Castlerea, Co.Roscommon, served 26 prosperous years with Summerhill. Mrs Walsh was a very active member of Sligo Social Services who worked tirelessly for her cause. Many times, each and every class in the school donated a Christmas hamper, with thanks to Mrs Walsh. Specialising in business studies and accounting, Mrs Walsh was regarded as being one of the best teachers in her field, achieving an average of 8 to 10 A grades each year. Involved in each musical, Mrs Walsh was wardrobe mistress and choreographed many dance routines with our budding stars of tomorrow. Mrs will be sadly missed on the teaching staff here at Summerhill and to give her a proper send off, a social was held in the Tower Hotel with all staff attending. . | |
