| DEBATING DEBATlNG: On Tuesday last, March 24th, the Summerhill 1st and 3rd year debating teams met their old rivals, Mercy College. The debate was held at Summerhill Collage and was attended by a large, enthusiastic crowd, which was not disappointed by the ptandard of debating by all teams. The 1st years argued that 'Homework should be abolished' and the team -Peter McGrath, Sean Finan, John Harkin and Rory Duggan, proved that this should be so! The team won gold and on this occasion had reason to celebrate on the double, when John Harkin was chosen as best speaker. The 3rd years, who argued convincingly that 'Discrimination no longer exists in modern day Ireland' were on this occasion forced to take silver as the Mercy girls opposed the motion with great determination. Well done to the team of Kevin Sexton, Eoin Martin, Brian Hanley, David Roche. | |
